Transparent TVs, smart toilets, robots and AI. The latest instalment of the CES Trade Show (formerly the Consumer Electronics Show) lived up to the expected hype surrounding the event. CES is all about tech giants and even startups showing off their wacky new toys and technology, whilst offering a glimpse into the future for what is to come. Here are 5 crazy CES 2024 Convention inventions that were showcased during this year’s event.
CES 2024: Transparent TVs
LG have set the bar high this year, confirming at CES 2024 that they would be shipping a transparent display TV this year. Samsung are in the race too; however, their showcased TV was merely a prototype, meaning LG have come out on top in this tech area.
Featuring the latest in TV technology, LG are producing an OLED version that you can quite literally see through. Coming with a retractable contrast screen, you can either keep the filter up, for a standard look, or you can bring it down, and the image will almost look like it’s floating mid-air.
Whilst currently this transparent TV concept is mainly designed for ambience, for instance when you’re not actively watching a show or movie, it is still an incredibly exciting concept coming to market in 2024.
CES 2024: Multiscope Health Checker
Withings as a company always show up to the CES event with helpful and futuristic health tech devices on display. CES 2024 was no different, with the BeamO presented, a “multiscope” product that is designed to measure your temperature, take electrocardiograms, read blood oxygen levels, and works as a stethoscope to monitor heart and lung health.
Whilst some of the crazy inventions seen at CES 2024 can be considered comical or ridiculous, this device from Withings can be thought of as much more of a realistic and useful tool. The ability to gain so many different readings, all with the use of an individual tool is something that should not be overlooked or underappreciated, especially for those who suffer health complications on a daily basis. The ability to have this product to monitor your health, rather than waiting to see your local GP for example, showcases just how efficient and effective the BeamO can be.
Whilst still needing FDA equivalent regulation clearance, patents still pending, and a retail price of around $400 AUD, this device still has some hoops to jump through, but will reportedly be available around June 2024.
CES 2024: Smart Binoculars
If ever there was a product that summed up CES, it would be the introduction of the AX Visio smart binoculars, designed to utilise AI and help identify over 9000 species of birds and other wildlife. This product, created by Swarovski Optik, will be a wildlife watcher’s dream, with the ability to not only identify species within your gaze, but it also contains the capability of taking pictures with its 13MP camera, and record 1080p video.
Not only this, but these smart binoculars come with a built in GPS, which is a tool that assists with identifying wildlife based on your location. Adding to the long list of features, it also comes with a “share discoveries” function, with arrows popping up on the screen in the viewfinder, allowing you to pass the binoculars to a friend and they can use that to direct their gaze to what you have found.
Coming in at around $6500, this product is one of the most niche items showcased at CES 2024 and whilst there is certainly a market for this kind of invention, it is yet another display of just how engrained technology is becoming in everyday life.
CES 2024: Electronic Stroller
Finishing off this list of 5 crazy CES 2024 convention inventions, we conclude with an electronic stroller. Gluxkind announced their AI powered smart stroller during the CES 2024 event, and turned heads with the features that were on display. It offers very similar technology as seen in autonomous cars and delivery robots, such as a dual motor system for uphill walks, and automatic downhill braking assistance.
There are some limitations however, and for good reason. The Gluxkind’s stroller’s onboard technology has the ability to detect objects around it through sensors, however according to the company’s website, it is purely designed as an extra pair of eyes and hands, not to fully replace a caregiver.
Coming in at around $5000 AUD, this device is certainly not on the cheap side, and has some obvious concerns surrounding the use of AI and autonomous driving connected to a child’s stroller.
CES 2024: Smart Toilet
The Numi 2.0, from the team at Kohler, is a fantastic example of what CES 2024 is all about. The Numi 2.0 is a one-piece elongated smart toilet with integrated personal cleansing, and this year at CES 2024, it got some upgrades!
Some of the handy features that were on display included motion activated, hands free opening/closing of the seat cover, heated seat with adjustable temperature settings, automatic deodorisation system and LED lighting which illuminates the bowl to serve as a nightlight. The latest modernisation to this unit however is in relation to its E Ink update, enabling the toilet to now display colour shifting panels, just in case all the previous features weren’t enough. To see it in action, check out this video from The Verge, who attended CES 2024.
If there was ever a product to perfectly highlight modern day technology, the Numi 2.0 is it. Coming in at just under $20,000 AUD, this product personifies extravagance and ridiculousness, and this is clearly just the beginning as each year, more updates come through, making this product even more crazy.
CES 2024 Wrap Up
As expected, CES 2024 did not disappoint. The products on this list, alongside the many others showcased in Las Vegas this year, are just a glimpse into the future of not just technology, but how we as humans will be living our lives in the years to come. Whilst we wait for some of these products to release in 2024, the countdown for 2025’s instalment of the CES convention has already begun.
